World Cup 2018: Healthy Game Day Snacks

Stocking up for the next big World Cup game? STOP! Football may be coming home, but those sausage rolls aren’t. We’re ditching the soggy nachos to bring you 4 quick and healthy game day snacks. After all, you don’t want to do your celebratory victory lap of the garden (shirt over head, of course) with a stomach ready to burst from fat-laden junk food.

Italian Pesto Hummus and Celery

Ahh hummus. I mean, the world cup is great and all. But does life get any better than dunking that first bit of veg into a fresh batch of creamy hummus? I certainly don’t think so. You might have heard that hummus is full of fat, but it’s unsaturated (healthy) fats, as well as fibre, antioxidants, protein.  You could serve up a plain garden-variety hummus. But that’s what they’re expecting you to do. Throw in a curve ball with this sophisticated yet simple recipe. Save 75p on Celery and Hummus at Tesco (coupons available for Sainsbury’s and Waitrose too).

What you’ll need:

  • 200g Pre-made hummus (lazy or genius? you decide)
  • 174cup Basil Pesto
  • 1tsp Paprika

How to prepare:

  1. Put hummus and pesto into blender for 1-2mins (until colour is consistent)
  2. Pour out into bowl and garnish with paprika
  3. Wah-la! Serve up with chopped celery and bask in compliments to the chef

Sticky, Spicy Marinated Tofu

In it’s pure form, tofu might not be to everyone’s taste. But this recipe will have the skeptics chomping through tofu as if England’s world cup hopes depended on it. Tofu contains a healthy dose of protein and is a great source of iron, calcium, magnesium, copper, amino acids and vitamin B1. I could go on all day, but I’ll leave it there for both our sakes. Get 50p cashback with our Cauldron Tofu coupon this week at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

What you’ll need:

  • 275g Tofu (firm)
  • 1/4cup Water
  • 2tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1tbsp Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1tbsp Sriracha Sauce
  • 1tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/3cup Sesame seeds

How to prepare:

  1. Mix marinade ingredients in bowl (all the ingredients on the list except for the tofu)
  2. Chop tofu into square drunks
  3. Add tofu to the mix and leave in fridge for 15mins (the longer you leave it the more flavour!)
  4. Remove tofu and drain liquid (keep it in a bowl)
  5. Heat tofu in frying pan until golden brown
  6. Add liquid you drained into the pan and cook until sticky
  7. Dip into sesame seeds and serve
