Today is Stop Food Waste Day βπ±
Stop Food Waste Day is a global awareness day, started in 2017 by Compass Group USA, that highlights the significant environmental, economic, and social impacts of food waste and encourages individuals, businesses, and communities to take action to minimise waste πͺ
The UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year, even though 8.4 million people in the UK are in food poverty. It is estimated that the UK's total food waste could feed upwards of 30 million people a year π―What can you do to get involved?

Some sustainable brands you can try
Get inspired by Dash Water and Toast Brewing, two fantastic brands that fight against food waste every day by producing products that are not only good for you but also good for the planet!
At Dash their mission to tackle endemic food waste has two key elements:
1. They want to change attitudes about βwonkyβ produce and to highlight - through their brand messaging and public engagement - that imperfections should be accepted as natural and even celebrated for being unique. They hope this will help us bring an end to irresponsible buying behaviours and to see nutritious fruit and vegetables of all shapes and sizes in retail aisles.
2. Second, to lead the way by ensuring that in their own drinks they are using fruit and vegetables that others say no to - giving the farmers we work with peace of mind that their wonky or surplus produce will end up on shop shelves.
Toast Brewing set out to make beer that tastes amazing and does amazing things too. That's why they brew with surplus bread, turning leftover loaves into liquid gold. So far, they've saved over 3 million slices & 100% of their profits go to environmental charities!
Spread the word and encourage your family and friends to stop wasting their food and find another purpose for it! Take your first steps in fighting food waste at The Felix Project, our charity partner! Their mission is to reduce food waste by redistributing food to local schools and charities in London! Volunteer for a session and start to truly understand how much food we waste as a community and play a part in reducing it!
